Cardinals

I've only had my camera since 2009, and one of the subjects I've wanted to capture has always managed to elude me...until now.  :)

I first spotted one during the summer in 2010, and actually got a few pictures, but they were not as good as I'd have liked.  I had to take them through a window and didn't have a filter.

Once spotted, he gave me a look, and after a few more shots he was gone.  After that, they didn't cooperated with me again that year.  I'd hear them outside, would catch sight of a quick flash of red, and maybe even see one for a second before it was off.  It's like they knew I wanted to see and take pictures of them.  Almost like they were teasing me.

The next year during the winter, it was so cold and had snowed so much, the bird feeders in my yard were in much demand.  They were hot spots in the area and even the ravens and crows stopped by to see what they could pick up off the ground.

I wasn't expecting them, but they showed up.  The female was the first and most cooperative, she seemed to pose for me on the deck rail.  I was able to get 2 pictures of her before she flew off.

The male also let me take several shots of him, BUT always with something between him and I, branches mainly, until the one shot, when I was able to slide over just a tad and had a better view of him.

After that, nada, zip, zilch.  Back to hearing them, spotting them in the trees or at the feeder, running for the camera and coming back to nothing, getting blurry red pictures or watching them fly away.  They were back to taunting me, or so it seemed to me.

Here we are in the spring of 2012 and this is what I was able to get:

Seems the Mister and Mrs. decided to dine out and in my backyard no less.  They saw me standing in the doorway and seemed to actually be alright with it.  I left before they did.  Maybe they're becoming accustomed to me?  I hope so, naturally!  ;)
