Flight

The very first picture, the one that actually got me hooked on photography, was of a hummingbird at one of the feeders I had put out.

It's also the picture that inspired my daughter to create the logo she made for me.  :)

It actually surprised me at how well the picture came out.  Of course, when I tried to get more, the little buggers suddenly became camera shy and would take off the minute I raised my camera.  I've figured out a way around that and am now able to get pictures of them just about anytime I want.

However, after a while, they seem to grow tired of me and will take off to the trees and will stay there until I go away.

The larger birds were a bit harder to capture.  They tend to stay still longer, and it's almost like they know what I'm trying to do and will wait until I get tired and put my camera down.  They everyone flies around like crazy.  So annoying!

But every now and then, a few take pity and allow me to get a few shots of them in flight.

The Bluebirds were the first.  A pair that had nested in one of the nest boxes I put up in my yard came back for a visit with the entire family in tow.  Not only did they give me shots of them in flight, papa bird gave me my first water action shots.

Looks like Jr. didn't want to get wet.

During a hard winter, I kept the bird feeders filled with seeds and one weekend I caught these guys.

And just recently, I was able to shoot this Nuthatch going back and forth to the feeder.

Birds aren't the only things I've been able to catch in flight...

Flight...for some creatures, it just happens...naturally.  :)
